The Pinnacles

Episode: Seven
Broadcast Date: 22/3/2014
Presenter: Dan Paris

Cervantes is just over two hours’ drive from Perth and as well as beautiful shallow, long beaches it hosts the world famous Pinnacles. Especially if you live in WA, you really can’t afford to miss the thousands of awe-inspiring sandstone spires formed over millions of years.

Does it take over two days to reach the moon by rocket or over two hours’ by car?

  • The Pinnacles were formed 25,000 to 30,000 years ago after the Indian Oceans coastal winds eroded the surrounding sand, leaving the limestone pillars exposed to the elements.
  • The Pinnacles attract 250,000 each year for good reason; make the most of the view by planning your trip around the sunset.
  • The Pinnacles are our state treasures so remember you need to leave your caravans and trailers back at the car park.
  • There are coach tours and Four-wheel drive tours from both Perth and Cervantes to the Pinnacles. Or coming from Perth we recommend you take the new Indian Ocean Drive for the quickest and most scenic journey.
  • “Nambung National Park also features secluded white sandy beaches perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Hangover Bay is one the best known with picnic tables, gas barbecues and a boat launch”. – Tourism WA
  • There is so much more to discover just north of Perth, for more information about Cervantes and the surrounding areas get online, here.
