Amberley pays a visit to the Dog’s Refuge Home in Shenton Park, to learn about the history and importance of pet refuge centres.

• The Dog’s Refuge Home in Shenton Park opened in 1935 thanks to animal activist Constance Horrocks, making it one of the oldest animal refuge centres in WA.
• The refuge takes care of unwanted dogs who have been given up or abused and finds them new homes.
• The refuge has recently undergone a major redevelopment in many areas, with new state of the art accommodation designed to reduce stress in the dogs at the home and to increase their occupancy.
• The Dog’s Refuge Home cares for thousands of dogs each year, with its primary mission aimed at educating more people about ethical pet ownership and preventing unwanted litters.
