Sue takes us through Perth’s wildflower season at Kings Park, sharing the vibrant colours, fragrant native blooms, and the calm beauty of the park in full spring display.

  • Kings Park in Perth CBD is one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, with over 400 hectares and deep cultural significance to the Whadjuk Noongar people, who have visited the area for tens of thousands of years.
  • The park includes bushland, parkland, and the Western Australian Botanic Garden, showcasing a large portion of WA’s native landscapes and making it a key place to explore local nature.
  • Western Australia is one of the most botanically diverse regions in the world, with around 13,000 plant species, many of which are unique to the state.
  • The best time to experience wildflowers is August to September, when large parts of WA bloom in colourful displays, with the Botanic Garden offering a curated look at this diversity.
  • Kings Park also hosts the Everlasting Kings Park Festival each September, celebrating native flora, with highlights like Roe Gardens and species such as Eucalyptus rhodantha (Rose of the West) and purple flowering plants.
