Chrissy's on a mission to uncover the best safety improvements Building for Tomorrow have done in Northern WA.

  • Main Roads WA is actively improving thousands of kilometres of regional roads through the Regional Road Safety Program. This initiative includes treatments such as shoulder sealing, which provides drivers with increased reaction time and control if their vehicle departs from its lane. Additionally, audible edge and centre lines are being installed to alert drivers when they are drifting, creating a safer road environment proven to reduce the risk and severity of crashes.
  • Great Northern Highway, located east of the Port Hedland International Airport, has recently undergone significant upgrades. These enhancements include the construction of a new 32-metre bridge at the Nelson Point main line level crossing and the realignment of nearly 5km of the highway. These improvements aim to enhance safety and efficiency for all road users.
  • The Hedland Road and Rail Safety Improvement project in Port Hedland has successfully addressed safety concerns related to level crossings. This project involved the construction of new road-over-rail bridges and the implementation of roundabouts, effectively eliminating delays caused by road and ore trains. These measures not only improve traffic flow but also enhance safety for motorists in the region.
  • Main Roads WA continues to focus on improving road safety and accessibility in the Pilbara region. Ongoing upgrades are designed to accommodate challenges such as encountering some of the world's longest road and ore trains, ensuring safer journeys for drivers traveling through the area.
  • Through the Regional Road Safety Program, Main Roads WA remains committed to upgrading thousands of kilometres of roads statewide. These continuous improvements aim to make road trips across Western Australia smoother and safer, benefiting both locals and visitors to the state.
