St Patrick’s Day is a global celebration of Irish culture on or around March 17. It particularly remembers St Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saints, who ministered Christianity in Ireland during the fifth century. In WA this March we are celebrating heritage and sharing the Irish culture.
St. Patrick’s Day, 2014
- St. Patrick’s Day is not a public holiday in Australia but is still fondly celebrated. Many Aussie’s choose to remember that plenty of the first settles as well as a large portion of convicts and about 300,000 immigrants (during 1840 to 1914) originate from Ireland.
- About 30 percent of Australians are believed to have some Irish ancestry today, but everyone is welcome to join in the spirit of the celebration.
- This year the ‘St. Patrick’s Festival WA Parade & Family Fun Day’ will be held on March 16th from 10am to 5pm with the parade starting at 10amin Leederville.
- The celebrations continue to Medibank Stadium and the St. Patrick’s Festival Family Fun Day which will feature entertainment for all of the family, featuring some of Perth’s finest musicians and Irish dancers as well as every form of entertainment the kiddies could desire.
