Nikki spends a day in Toodyay, learning about the ractrack renovations and the upcoming historic cup.
- Toodyay is a charming town rich in history and natural beauty, known for its heritage buildings, vibrant community events, and scenic landscapes. Only a one hour drive from Perth, visitors can explore the historic streets, enjoy local cuisine, and participate in community festivals, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
- Toodyay has many local attractions. The Toodyay Caravan Park is a great little hideaway within walking distance from town, offering amenities including a canoe launching site for exploring the Avon River. Visitors can also step back in time and wander the streets, taking in historic buildings like the old Post Office, Connor's Mill, and the Newcastle Gaol Museum.
- Founded in 1865, the Toodyay Racecourse has undergone several changes, including the relocation of the grandstand and straight to the western side in 1949. Racing resumed in 1997 after a seven-year hiatus, and in 2022, the race meeting was temporarily moved to Belmont while the track underwent improvements.
- The Toodyay Races are back! After years without racing action at the historic venue, this September will see the return of this very popular event. The race club has worked extremely hard to put on this event, maintaining the track, upgrading the new railing, and improving facilities, as racing has taken place here since 1865.
- There will be a $1,000 cash prize for the Myles Wilson 'Dash for Cash,' where Toodyay's fastest runners will compete with city visitors for the prize. Separate male and female races will take place, with $1,000 awarded to the winner in each category.
- Tod Johnston & PeaceLove band will also perform, providing music for a boogie and singalong after the races.
- Add this excellent family-friendly fun day to your upcoming diaries and enjoy the old-world charm and excitement at the Toodyay Cup on Sunday, 22 September 2024.
