Dongara is a great destination and why not visit while the Dongara Country Cup is on for the added excitement.

  • Nestled 350 kms north of Perth, Dongara captivates the city crowd with breathtaking scenery, rich heritage, both oceans and the beach, and the origin of the Kailis brothers' crayfishing empire. Barry Wise, the town president, highlights Dongara as a year-round destination.
  • Dongara offers a growing list of experiences, including the only rum distillery between Perth and Kununurra, charming bars like Common Place, the oldest drive-in in the state, and the opportunity to savour local delicacies through fishing.
  • The Dongara Easter races, one of the longest-running community events in the Shire of Irwin, attracts families from across Australia, with approximately 3000 attendees enjoying the festivities each day over the weekend since the 1940s.
  • Racing in Dongara is a community-centred event offering family-friendly activities, live entertainment, VIP marquee experiences, and the quirky 'Wheelie Bin Relay Race,' with Dongara Irwin Race Club organising a bus service for race day convenience, with limited runs to and from Port Denison.
  • The Dongara community, driven by a volunteer spirit, has revitalized the annual races, attracting around 10,000 people over the weekend and contributing to the town's tourism growth.
