Kate takes a peek behind the curtain of a world-class ballet production company and learns what it takes to truly be a part of West Australia’s elite ballet dancers.
- The iconic West Australian Ballet company has just celebrated their 70th anniversary!
- The company has had continued expansion, now home to 47 professional dancers of 10 different nationalities.
- Each year, the West Australian Ballet present six seasons in Perth at His Majesty’s Theatre, the Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach, Heath Ledger Theatre at the State Theatre Centre of WA, and the West Australian Ballet Centre.
- It’s Artistic Director Aurelien Scannella’s 10th year in charge, and he has many exciting works coming up like an iconic new Swan Lake which includes the interweaving of a Noongar story.
- The dancers rehearse and train 8 hours per day, five to six days a week are as fit (if not fitter) than AFL players and other professional athletes.
