Broadcast: 10th July 2016
Presenter: Chrissy Morrissy

Back in France in 1783 a sheep, a duck and a rooster ascended into the sky in the world’s first successful hot air balloon flight near the court of Versailles, setting aloft a fascination for ballooning that continues to this day. However, it's a passion you have to be prepared to get up very early for!! Chrissy checks out the stunning Avon Valley from the sky.

  • Windward Balloon Adventures flies over the Avon Valley throughout winter.
  • The balloon is controlled entirely by the turning the flame on and off.
  • It might be a cold start to your day, but once you reach soaring height it becomes a lot warmer.
  • Once you have landed at the end of your journey, be sure to partake in a Champaign breakfast. When balloon flight first started in France, peasant famers used to object to the Balloons crushing their crops when they landed so to make amends, the French aristocracy would give them cases of champagne to smooth things over and a tradition was born and has stuck around the globe.
