  • Turtle tracks and nesting sites cover the beaches, with hatchlings spending around 60 days incubating beneath the sand before making their first journey to the ocean.
  • The journey from nest to sea is incredibly dangerous, with birds, crabs, snakes and other predators creating enormous challenges for the tiny hatchlings.
  • The Montebello Islands are home to four turtle species—Loggerhead, Green, Flatback and Hawksbill turtles—with the region supporting one of the Indian Ocean’s largest Hawksbill populations.
  • Nesting season occurs between October and March, with peak activity from November to January within the protected Montebello Islands Marine Park.
  • Trevor and Will describe the turtle hatching as a once-in-a-lifetime experience, highlighting the emotional impact of witnessing these animals begin their journey.
  • The Reef Prince team uses their local knowledge to help guests safely experience unforgettable wildlife encounters, from turtle hatchings to sea lions and marine life across the islands.
