Coorow Community Farm

Title: Coorow Community Farm
Date: September 8th
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

The town of Coorow cultivate their wildflower population in the Coorow Community Farm

  • While Aboriginal people have been living in the area for thousands of years, the town itself was set up in 1893. The town got its name from the local Aboriginal language, and could mean one of two things: “The land of many mists”, or it could’ve been named after the coorow plant, which was an important source of food
  • Located just 1 km out of town lies the Coorow Community Farm, where the community bands together to raise funds to contribute the development of the town
  • Creating a wonderful juxtaposition against the local farmlands, the community have worked towards keeping the natural, indigenous environment intact
  • The hills around the area make for an excellent stroll, though the local flora is still easily accessible by car
