Broadcast: 8th April 2018
Presenter: Chrissy Morrissy

To we visit Whiteman Park, one of the most unexpected tourist experiences in our state, 30 mins drive from the heart of Perth, its home to one of Australia’s most recognizable cars, Daniel Ricciardos Formula One vehicle.

  • The park is 10 times bigger than Kings park and has just won the State’s major tourist attraction category for the 2nd year in a row.
  • Home to a very special slice of Western Australia history, the park is where our States transport, bus and enthusiastic restorers like to play.
  • Take a little Road/rail trip down memory lane, the old East Perth station is now No. 1 platform at Whitman village junction and for the Volunteers here who restore and run the trains, it’s a real labor of love.
  • Whiteman park is also the only place where you can travel by vintage Tram in WA, and a trip on Tram 66 is pretty special; At 101 years old, she is famous for the last run to Inglewood from Barack Street Jetty on the 19 July 1958, the last time a Tram ran in WA.
  • The park also has a Bus preservation society, with 82 buses. Every Monday you can hop on the Metro 81, free when she does her tours of the park, the organization has a vision to keep alive the past so that this generation and future generations can appreciate its rich history.
  • There is a lot to see and do out here at Whiteman park, including the Revolutions Museum which looks at the impact transport methods have had and continue to have on our State.
  • And finally, the display that leaves all visitors all revved up, the WA motor museum, is also located at Whiteman Park and if you love cars you will happily send a fair bit of time here.
  • There is enough here to get you coming back time and time again, some of the displays are free and others have a pretty modest fee, more details are available on their website.
