RAC Roadside safety: Pit Stops

Episode: 9
Title: RAC Roadside safety: Pit Stops
Broadcast: 1st April 2018
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

Western Australia is as beautiful as it is huge! Our state spans an area of 2.5 million square kilometres and as such long road trips are ingrained in WA’s identity. With long road trips and driving holidays comes long hours of driving, and in turn, fatigue and exhaustion can set in.

  • Fatigue creeps up with very little warning. Driving fatigued is so dangerous because your reaction time and alertness to your surroundings become impaired.
  • We’ve all been guilty of driving a little tired, but that’s why it’s so important to routinely stop, pull over and take a break or even switch drivers. These crucial steps will help minimize your risk of having a serious crash.
  • To tackle fatigue during holiday periods, RAC have organised annual pit-stops around Easter, Leavers and other events, where you can stand up, stretch your legs and grab a free drink.
  • There is usually a road-house or cafe along the way to recharge your batteries along the way – so pull in, slow down and enjoy the journey!
