Carmen takes us to one of the state’s most loved destinations, the City of South Perth. South Perth is jam-packed with wonderful places to discover and explore.
- Mindeerup is the new gateway to South Perth providing a vibrant and engaging visitor experience with its eye-catching public artworks.
- At the piazza, the giant numbat and frill neck lizard installations were conceived in consultation with Perth Zoo.
- The animals represent the zoo’s focus on conservation and native fauna.
- The Mends Street precinct is the urban heart of South Perth and a destination for local, metro and regional visitors.
- Public artworks line the streets. Such work includes the ‘Mends Street Mob’- a family of meerkats guiding visitors along the street.
- The Ferry Tram is a restored B-class tram engine that once ran along Mends Street to Mary Street, Como. It is now open to the public next to Heritage House in Windsor Park.
- Mindeerup is surrounded by some of Perth’s finest restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, patisseries and specialty gourmet food stores.
- Karl Kep Ngoornd-iny, meaning Fire and Water Dreaming, is a display shown at night that combines light projection with an evocative soundscape to share ancient Aboriginal stories.
