Story: Animals at the Park
Episode: 1
Presenter: Nikki Parkinson
Air Date: 15th November 2020

Spring is a great time to get outdoors and discover our native flora and fauna at Whiteman Park.

  • Whiteman Park is located just 20 minutes from the Perth CBD and sits on 4,000 hectares of natural bushland.
  • It is home to Caversham Wildlife Park, where you can get up-close and personal with Australia’s native fauna.
  • The park boasts more than 2,000 animals, with everything from koalas, wombats and possums to Tasmanian devils and kangaroos.
  • You can spot a number of nocturnal animals on one of the Nocturnal Woylie Walks through the Woodland Reserve.
  • Explore the Reserve by torchlight, see the animals in their natural environment and learn about how Whiteman Park are helping the critically endangered woylie.
  • The Reserve is home to many other species like echidnas, native birds and wallabies and the money raised from the walks goes towards protecting these species.
  • Kids Nocturnal Woylie Walks will be held on Wednesday nights during the school holidays.
  • These will be shorter walks with more time to get close to the animals and the kids get a special memento to take home with them.
