Title: Killer Whales off Bremer Bay
Broadcast: 8th April 2018
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Climb on board with Trevor as he takes you on Whale Watch Western Australia’s cruise from Bremer Bay to witness something quite remarkable.
- Bremer Bay is situated about two hours east of Albany, the cruises head out 45 mins from shore towards a huge underwater canyon, and every year from January to April nutrients start bubbling below the surface, attracting millions of marine creatures and it’s here where you can see the largest congregation of Killer Whale’s in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Currents from the North meet currents from the South and because it’s a underwater canyon, it creates a perfect mix of nutrients and it is believed that there’s a small gas leak in the area that acts like a fertilizer, creating an ideal environment for the smallest of the food chain, going all the way to the top to the apex of the predators, the Killer Whale, also known as Orca.
- The head Female or Mother Orca is known as the Matriarch of the family, living up to 100 years old, you can tell the males by their massive dorsal fin.
- Additionally, you may see Sperm Wales and Long Fin Pilot Whales, and all three major predators are after the squid in the area, the best time to visit Bremer Bay is January, February & March.
- This 25-meter purpose build vessel can comfortably seat 75 people and is engineered for speed and luxury, freeing you up to take in the natural surroundings and the amazing wild life.
- An amazing experience offered and run by a family business and experience and opportunity you will never forget.
