The Swan Valley, 20 minutes drive out of Perth is the oldest wine region in Western Australia. Mandoon Estate is leader of wine is this region, but, they don’t just have wine. They have fantastic food, art and luxury accommodation.
- Chrissy catches up with Executive Chef Micheal Hartnell to check out some of the history of Mandoon Estate. Michael Hartnell has quite a few similarities to founder of Mandoon, John Septimus Roe. They are both from London to start with!
- John Septimus Roe was given this piece of land and became friends with the local Noongar people who called the area Mandoon, meaning, ’place of many trees’.
- Although this place has many trees, it now is most famous for its many vines! They were first planted in 1895 with vadella grapes. Those vines are still used today.
- There are a variety of food and beverage options at Mandoon Estate. The fine dining option is, ’Wild Swan’ or if you’d like you can purchase a picnic hamper filled with gourmet ingredients from the Swan Valley.
