- Dampier Arhcipelago and its history dates back to dream time. The Yabburarra people lived there for thousands of years.
- In 1699 William Dampier in command of a 26 gun war ship, the HMA Roebuck, sailed through there recording its spectacular coast line.
- The modern history of the archipelago is amazing; for a few hundred years, pearls, whaling and pastoral property running sheep were the backbone of the area.
- In modern times Dampier is better known as one of the worlds great mineral resource shipping ports as it has a deep harbor and easy access to the salt, Iron Ore and gas that is mined in the region.
