If you’re looking for a destination that is pure gold, then go no further! In Perth’s CBD, the Perth Mint is a historical institute that also refines Australia’s gold.
- In 1899 the Perth Mint was once established as a branch of Britain’s Royal Mint. Its primary focus is to refine gold from Western Australia’s eastern goldfields and strike gold coinage even to this day.
- The Perth Mint offers a guided heritage talk, taking visitors through the heritage building, the heavily secured vault and even the original melting house while explaining the many extraordinary stories making up Western Australia’s golden history.
- Visitors can even witness a traditional pour of gold in the Perth Mint’s original melting house, pure gold heated to molten temperatures and transformed into a solid bar.
- Western Australia is the second largest producer of gold in the world!
