Continuing the adventure through the goldfields, the next stops is one of the many towns that boomed during the gold rush and has now become a bit of a ghost town.

• There is something to be said for a little piece and quiet. A place away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Menzies is such a place, but it wasn’t always this way.
• Back in the 1890’s, this sleepy little town was a hive of activity, boasting 13 hotels, 3 banks, its own breweries and cordial factories, 4 churches, a post office and a school with 205 pupils.
• It also had a fancy, newly built, town hall in the rural Italian style, with the town clock that was to be the crowning achievement of this new building. It was ordered and shipped from England. Making it halfway around the world, the “SS Orizaba”, that was transporting the clock, was shipwrecked off the coast.
• The Spirit of Menzies or Gormely refers to it the Inner Spirit of Man is a hauntingly beautiful outdoor installation located out in Lake Ballard, a gigantic salt flat outside of town. It is the largest outdoor installation in the world.
• Menzies is a great place to visit if you are out exploring the natural beauty of the Northern Goldfields or if you’re interested in the gold rush history of Western Australia.
