Broadcast: 12th April
Presenter: Chrissy Morrissy
Chrissy visits Crawley where she will learn about the Royal Perth Yacht Club, which is celebrating its 150th Anniversary.
- The Royal Perth Yacht Club is Australia’s third oldest yacht club.
- Initially, sailing was not so popular in the colony. In 1844 the foundation day regatta only had three sailing boats enter two classes, it was not until the early 1860’s that a number of sailors got together to organise their own regattas.
- The first club was based at the bottom of William Street, under where Elizabeth Quay is being developed.
- Back in 1983, the club was celebrating its most famous victory; the America’s cup.
