Mining is the backbone of the Australian economy, but mining does not work without people. Mining companies used to build towns near the existing mines so that their employees and their families could live happily.

• Part of the Pilbara Cities initiatives aimed at growing Karratha into a modern, vibrant city of over 50,000 people.
• A few months back, Karratha officially became a city and part of this outlook is to make a great place even more livable.
• With the Pilbarra Design approach providing an example of what is possible, it will be interesting to see how Karratha will change in its next 50 years.
