Presenter: Carmen Braidwood
TX Date: February 24th, 2019

Looking for a great up-close encounter with local wildlife right here in the heart of Perth? Look no further than Caversham Wildlife Park.

  • Caversham Wildlife park is an easy 20-minute drive from Perth and is home to over 200 species of Wildlife.
  • The park sprawls across 16 acres of animal enclosures, and is home to a mind-boggling two thousand animals, most of which have been hand-raised after being rescued from the wild.
  • For decades the park has played an important role in educating visitors to the park. By allowing interaction with the animals, visitors learn more about the animals and what they like and don’t like.
  • In December 2017, Caversham welcomed 3 young wombats, all orphaned joeys from South Australia due to their mothers being victims of vehicle strikes.
  • Passers-by stop to check the pouches and take joeys to wildlife carers, who work tirelessly to care for the joeys with round-the-clock bottle feeds and love.
  • When Ashe was found in her mothers’ pouch, she only weighed 580grams and she was hand reared and bought to Caversham Wildlife park.
  • In the wild, Wombats usually only live for 5-10 years, whereas in captivity they live to over 20 years.
  • The scientific name for the common Wombat is Vombatus Ursinus and they are the closest living relative of the Koala.
  • The Wombat and Friends show is one of several daily presentations that turns learning into fun, packed with fun facts and trivia about these very lovable creatures. Isn’t it time you visited Caversham Wildlife park and got up close with the beautiful animals here.
