Exploring the Collie region

Segment: Exploring the Collie region
Presenter: Carmen Braidwood
TX Date: February 10th, 2019

Get out and explore the adventurous yet accessible mountain bike and walking trails in the Wellington National Park and Collie.

  • Just 2 hours South of the Perth, the Collie River Valley is a playground for thrill seeking day trippers or holiday makers alike.
  • The region is full to the brim with natural beauty and exciting ways to get amongst it, be it on bare foot or two wheels.
  • If you don’t have your own bike, that’s easy.. Hinterland Escapes are able to arrange to supply some bikes for you or tailor a trip to suit your needs.
  • A lot of the tracks are quiet well shaded and the cool air makes for a pleasant ride through the forest.
  • There is something in the national park for everyone, with some tracks being great for families and less skilled riders. If you are a keen mountain bike rider, there are other places in the park that are more highly technical and challenging.
  • Hinterland escapes is able to drop riders and their bikes off at specific locations so they are able to ride back to their accommodation or Bunbury. Even orgnasing a half day tour where you can enjoy a drink afterwards at one of the wineries.
  • Another great location to visit on your trip to the national park is Black Diamond lake. The lake is an abandoned mine site approximately 5km west of Collie. Especially on sunny days, the turquoise waters are very popular with the locals and tourists. There is no camping allowed or toilets in the area, so plan your visit ahead and make sure you check the latest water conditions before taking a dip.
  • If you’re looking for a break the townsite of Collie is the perfect home base. Collie strikes the balance between thriving regional centre and charming country town, a great location to stop for a coffee or something yummy from a proper country style bakery.
  • Get out there and enjoy the Collie region and Wellington National Park on your next trip, even if just for a day to get a taste for your next trip.
