Pingrup Silo & Store Café 6343

Segment: Pingrup Silo & Store Café 6343
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
TX Date: 23rd December 2018

The town of Pingrup is home to one of WA’s latest art pieces, and it’s one that you’ll have to see to truly believe.

  • Pingrup gets its name from the Noongar word for ‘place where there is digging’. Its enormous grain silos have long been a major landmark in the town, and they have recently turned into one of WA’s most astounding art instillations.
  • The artwork on the silos was inspired by things that are important to the town – the horse and jockey for the Pingrup races, the sheep and farmer for industry, and the tractor representing the pioneers.
  • The art was created by the New York based artist EVOCA1, who has completed murals all around the world. He had 2 weeks to put this piece together, on occasions working in the freezing cold and rain.
  • Close by is the Store Café 6243 which is known for its delicious coffee. The building used to house the Pingrup general store and falls within the postcode of 6243, hence the name.
  • One of the coffee’s here is quite unique, being made with a small amount of lavender syrup. The coffee is then garnished with lavender seeds, creating a delicious combination.
  • Pingrup is a must stop on your trip through the Great Southern, it is the gateway to Albany and Esperance, with Katanning just to the west. Why not team it up with a stopover at the Premier Mill Hotel in Katanning and tick 2 destinations off on your Western Australian bucket list.
