The New Scarborough Foreshore

Episode: 13
Title: The New Scarborough Foreshore
Broadcast: 29th April 2018
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

Perth has been changing rapidly in recent years and whilst there’s been a lot of new developments in and around the CBD the changes are not restricted to just the city, Scarborough beach is an iconic destination that has undergone a 100-million-dollar transformation.

  • Scarborough has always been about the beach, a great place to swim, surf and sunbath and also a great place for many events like the surf lifesaving championships held right here.
  • The Metropolitan regional Authority initially managed the project; it’s design includes the area’s history right back to its original aboriginal site, also keeping the snake pit, including the dance crazes to the car culture, bringing it all together as a modern contemporary melting pot. The project is now handed over to the City of Stirling.
  • The Scarborough Foreshore offers a place for friends and family to meet whilst enjoying the outdoor activities. And Located on the promenade at Scarborough Beach is the very popular lap pool, heated year-round to 27°C. The facility also has a separate leisure pool, for more relaxed swims and swimming lessons. On hot summer days you can relax on the sun lounges (with optional shaded areas) and on cool winter days you can still enjoy a dip thanks to the year-round geothermal heating. The new Scarborough Foreshore is yet another gem in this beautiful city called Perth, so make sure you take time to visit.
