Episode: 11
Title: Beach Hopping the Cape Range in Exmouth
Broadcast:  15th April 2018
Presenter: Chrissy Morrissy and Trevor Cochrane

A two-and-a-half-hour flight away from Perth is Exmouth, gateway to the Ningaloo Reef and today Trevor and Chrissy show us that you don’t need big bucks to catch the wow factor of the region.

  • Staying at the RAC Exmouth Cape Holiday Park you have access to great accommodation and services, including access to hiring snorkeling equipment or a glass bottom boogie board to name a few.
  • Turquoise bay is an excellent spot to get out an experience the Cape, get in an early morning fish or swim in the crystal blue waters.
  • The Ningaloo Reef runs 260km north to south and harbors some of the best table fish you will ever get to eat, look out for the signage in the car parks to let you know If you can fish in that particular area or not, making for easy fishing.
  • It’s the reef that makes the fishing so special and makes snorkeling even more spectacular.
  • A brief walk from the point of Turquoise bay is the start of one of the most famous drift dives off the Australian coast, simply stop off the beach and start your snorkel, sometimes you may need to swim a little further, up to 15metres off the beach depending if the tide is in or out.
  • Beyond the sand you will find coral, more than 250 species of coral form the reef, providing homes for over 500 species of fish, including sharks, although everything in the area seems pretty well fed, with the abundance of underwater life in the area.
  • The drift whips you along at quiet a speed, though the trick is to start out wide and aim into the sand bar at the end, get out and do it all again.
