There are many ways to discover WAs best kept secret, Esperance. Few are better than seeing it from the air. You really get a sense of its beauty and geography.

  • Goldfields Air Service run 2 hour sightseeing flights over Esperance and the beautiful archipelago.
  • The first lookout point is Esperance and pilot Ryan, tells the history of the town. Trevor learns that in fact the French knew this regions beauty long before the English. In 1792 The French established the town of Esperance, named after the French ship, which roughly translates to the word, “hope”.
  • The next stop on the journey is the flight over the Cape Le Grand National Park, which consists of 104 individual islands, each with their own name.
  • The biggest island on the flight is Middle Island, which is home to Lake Hillier, which is world famous for its Pink Lake. Unlike a lot of Pink Lakes it is pink all year round.
  • Middle Island was also home to one of Australia’s only known documented pirates, Black Jack Anderson who hunted sea lions and sold their coats in Albany.
  • The flight provides a perspective of the town you can’t get from the ground and is a great way to plan your adventures over the coming days exploring Esperance.
